Audrey Tautou is Priceless
Some movies are just plain fun. I don’t refer to the kind that makes you laugh uproariously. No, just plain fun films make you smile and realize you’re enjoying yourself. Priceless (Hors de prix) is just such a film.
Irène (Audrey Tautou), who makes a fortune sweet-talking rich men, puts the moves on klutzy Jean (Gad Elmaleh), unaware that he’s just a hotel bartender. But by the time she realizes her mistake, Jean is smitten with her. Letting men down easy has never been Irène’s strong suit, but she finds a way to mend Jean’s broken heart that ensures he’ll never have to mix cocktails again. – Netflix
This quirky romance resembles the amoral nature of Pretty Woman. By that I mean Irène is a courtesan and Jean eventually falls into the role of a gigolo. But these two characters are likable and you’ll find yourself rooting for their happiness.
Like any other romantic comedy, the couple must overcome obstacles. Along the way there is laughter and tears, but as expected the ending is perfect.
The film rolls along at a sedate pace, not slow but definitely not rushed by any means. Audrey Tautou is magnificent and Gad Elmaleh’s performance is a perfect mixture of innocence and daring.
Priceless isn’t for children. The subject matter alone warrants an adult audience. Don’t expect a stunning cinematic experience but rather an enjoyable journey that’s just plain fun.

A pleasant movie for French Language Students. Easy to read and follow. The longest and toughest word in the entire script was “Embargo”. Like in Amelie where a seedy neighborhood was glorified here the lowly profession mentioned is also glorified and put on the level of real estate agent or pyramid sales reps.
very nice , great article thank you.
